Disappearing terraces and road death: the week in Majorca

Results of a survey into tourism sustainability raised a question as to how the public interprets "sustainability", Palma's terraces were becoming a battleground once more, road safety was highlighted with a tragic death and there were some odd poles in the Tramuntana.

Another big week of fiestas: Santa Ponsa's Rei en Jaume get under way; Santa Margalida has the famed La Beata procession on Sunday; Fornalutx stages (perhaps for the last time) its controversial bull-run; Vilafranca has its messy melon battle; and Palma its giant water fight. British girl in serious condition after Magalluf hotel fall

The incident occurred around 8.30 this morning. It would seem that the girl fell from the emergency staircase.
