Sir,

We first came to Majorca 10 years ago and were impressed with the beautiful island and the friendly people. We have just returned for the second time since then and find that things have changed.

The island is still beautiful and our hotel has certainly raised its standards but we no longer feel welcome outside of the hotel, we now seem to be seen as “wallets on legs”! It was pleasant to support the local cafes and bars as they were always more reasonably priced than the hotels, but we now find it is cheaper to have snacks and drinks in the hotels.

When we have eaten out, we feel that we have not always been charged the correct price and when queried, owners and waiters suddenly cannot understand English.

Our experience this year has certainly made us think twice about returning, which is sad as Majorca doesn't deserve to acquire a bad reputation.

Yours faithfully, A. Bradford, Wiltshire, England.
