I was thinking the other day that it is a great shame that the local authorities do not take advantage of the international know-how which exists on the island. There are people living and working here, I believe, who could play a useful advisory role for the local authorities. Take the nautical industry for instance. There are scores of foreign business-people who are based here who could help the Balearic government in promoting and developing the industry. They know their stuff because they are working at the coal-face so to speak. I am sure that many would welcome the opportunity to get involved and they could inform the local authorities on whether more yacht clubs are needed and whether or not the industry could be further developed. I always feel, that while the nautical industry provides the local authorities with so much revenue, it is often overlooked. Another classic example is tourism. Perhaps the local authorities and councils should be asking them how winter tourism can be increased rather than just going ahead with ambitious projects. There is one thing that it is evident. Whether foreign or Majorcan we all love the island and would like to help it so that it can prosper. So my advice to the government, listen to the people that know.
