Would someone please explain to Argentina that the reason why Britain maintains a large garrison on the Falklands is because there is a widespread fear that Argentina could stage another invasion. The fact that Argentina has accused Britain of militarizing the South Atlantic is truly ludicrous. If Argentina would only forget its claim of sovereignty and just sit down with Britain and talk about the future of the islands then the troops would be withdrawn. At a time when Britain is desperately trying to reduce its defence budget the last thing that the Cameron government wants is to have to station 2'000 troops on the islands. If Argentina would only realise that Britain´s resolve to keep the islands remains rock hard then perhaps progress could be made. As we approach the 30th anniversary of the war we should be remembering the 1'000 people who died and the hundreds who were injured in the conflict and not just another round of sabre rattling.
