Magalluf deserves its place in history as one of the most popular holiday resorts in the world which helped pioneer package tourism. Overall, it is a rather nice place. It is home to Mallorca Cricket Club, it is home to one of the biggest discoes in Europe and also serves some of the best British food outside Britain. But now there is a movement to change its name because of the massive redevelopment plans which have been unveiled. In other-words “Magalluf” no longer fits with the up-market facelift which is being planned. If Magalluf became “Nova Calvia” then really an own-goal would be scored. Magalluf is known worldwide and it has probably been visited by at least half the British population. “The new better Magalluf,” would certainly get my attention, but “the new better Nova Calvia” doesn´t really have the same impact. I say cash-in on Magalluf´s name and spread the word that this holiday destination is changing for the better. But the first thing that needs to be done is to clear Magalluf of street prostitutes. They are giving the resort a bad name and they are one of the reasons why a name change is being considered. The police need to launch a major crackdown before the summer season gets into full swing and resolve this problem once and for all. I suspect that tourists do not really care if Magalluf has a new name or not, they are just worried about the problem of street prostitutes and the crimes they allegedly cause.
