Mateo Isern, the Mayor of Palma, for championing Sunday shop opening in Palma. When he was elected Mayor a year ago he promised to boost the city and vowed that shops would be allowed to open on Sundays and public holidays. His dream came true over the Easter period when the majority of shops opened on Easter Sunday and enjoyed a major increase in takings. Isern has also devised the campaign Palma 365, to underline the fact that the city is an all-year-round place. Isern should also be congratulated for introducing legislation which bans cyclists from riding on pavements. The city has spent heavily on cycle paths which should be used and not at the expense of pavements.
