There are warning signs about the state of the local economy; this summer season has been poor compared to previous years so Majorca needs all the tourists it can get. The other side of the argument is that cruise ships do cause pollution and Palma is overcrowded on key days, especially when the so-called mega-cruise ships are in port. At the moment the city and probably most of Majorca is split over the issue of cruise ships.

Why all the fuss? Other destinations have more than twice the amount of visiting cruise ship passengers. We are not living in the 1950:s and we can't turn the clock back.
As someone who lives in the path of these beasts, I say 1 a week maximum. They are destroying the bay of Palma. As I have said before, your policy of more everything will, eventually, ruin Mallorca forever. I can’t understand why someone like you, who has lived here for most of his life, cannot see the ongoing degradation and yet support more roads, more shopping centres, Sunday opening, more flights etc. Etc. Enough is enough. I know many people (locals and foreign residents) who have had enough and are thinking of leaving. The sea sewage this year is one more nail in Mallorca’s coffin. The island is badly run, full stop.
