The 64th Pollensa Festival, which was co-founded in 1962 by British violinist Philip Newman, will appropriately enough start by showcasing one of the world’s major violin talents.
Janine Jansen from the Netherlands was born into a musical family in 1978. From beginning her study of the violin at the age of six, she advanced to, for example, opening the BBC Proms in 2005. She has played to sold-out audiences in venues such as the Walt Disney Concert Hall (with the Los Angeles Philharmonic) and received standing ovations at venues like Berlin’s Waldbühne.
For the festival she will be accompanied by the Camerata Salzburg, a chamber orchestra founded in 1952. The programme will feature works by Bach and Mendelssohn, Janine Jansen’s recording career having been marked by her Bach interpretations, among other things.
