Bassist Christian McBride, now 53, has been a star on the global jazz scene since his late teens when he joined sax player Bobby Watson’s band.
This was swiftly followed by his becoming one of a threesome of bassists put together by the legendary Ray Brown. They brought out two albums and were a unique combination. Rising into the ranks of the great, his collaborations included work with guitarist Pat Metheny and the Five Peace Band.
This was along with Chick Corea, Vinnie Colaiuta, John McLaughlin and sax player Kenny Garrett, a past performer at Sa Pobla’s Jazz Festival, for which McBride, winner of nine Grammys, will be this year’s headline act. With Benny Green on piano and Gregory Hutchinson on drums, he will be showcasing his Remembering Ray Brown tribute.
