Es Gremi programmed Marky Ramone and Dead Kennedys a few days apart but will keep until August another of the pioneering names of American punk.
Black Flag were formed in Hermosa Beach, California in 1976. Widely considered to be one of the first hardcore punk bands, their sound developed. It slowed down and influenced grunge, while elements of free jazz began to creep in. They have split up and reformed on four occasions, the latest incarnations having been together since 2019 (a new line-up was in fact announced earlier this year).
Guitarist Greg Ginn, who has shaped the sound over the years, is the only original member.
