Sir András Schiff, born in Hungary in 1953, took Austrian citizenship in 1987, which he later renounced in becoming a British citizen in 2001.

A fierce critic of the far-right in Hungary and Austria, he has now cancelled all appearances in the US because of Donald Trump, including the immigration policies.

His political views aside, he is one of the world’s great classical pianists and the recipient of numerous awards; he was knighted in 2014.

One of the most renowned interpreters of the works of Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Schubert and Robert Schumann, his recordings for the Munich-based ECM label include live performances of all Beethoven’s sonatas. He will be appearing at the Pollensa Festival, the programme for which is unknown as he doesn’t make announcements in advance.
