The "battle" between taxi drivers and those they call pirates, the drivers of minibuses, has reached fever pitch at Palma airport with insults and blows being traded between both sides. With the busy summer season just beginning there are fears that "all out war" could break out between both sides at a time when there is a severe shortage of taxis.

I bet that if Uber and Lyft were legalised in Mallorca the current taxi service would improve dramatically and be a hell of a lot cheaper. There is nothing like a closed shop to generate high prices and bad service.
It's interesting see all this people against the "Taxi piratas" and quite understandable to be fair but I'm surprised how anyone talks Abo the abusive prices of the regular taxis and how them have went in continuously strikes to stop services in the island like Uber or Cabbify because it takes away the customers. Why it takes them away? Really easy to answer because the prices of those services are usually half of what they charge. So I'm sorry Taxis but you created this situation so now is your turn to deal with it.
The Mallorca Taxi situation is probably the worst in any tourism resort worldwide. I know because I have been to them all. This coupled with the their uneducated and shortsighted views, their rudeness and their unmaintained taxies makes the experience on Mallorca a 3rd world experience, at best. Shame on the government for not fixing this issue for years, I have been listing to this nonsense for at least the last 20 years. Also due to the unavailability of taxies at night during tourist season, the government inadvertency promotes drunk driving, and makes Mallorca an unsafe place. Shame on you Mallorca, you should be in a better place by now.
Good to see the taxi mafia abusing free trade again.
