DEAR SIR

I read in Tuesday's Daily B that the undersea electricity cable linking the mainland with the Baleares at the end of this year will make a saving of 30 to 35 million euros. It is probably naive to hope that some of this is passed onto the consumer – us.

Another plus which will please our Green Planet Disciples is that carbon emissions will drop by 10%.
Unfortunately the search for Green Bars & Restaurants has driven smokers out onto the street and as a consequence has led to a boom in the use of outside space heaters to warm the cold air on the terraces – endlessly! The increased carbon footprint will probably exceed the drop expected by Ramon Granadino director of “Red Electrica”.
Life can be perverse - in searching perfection what you win on the roundabouts you may lose on the swings.
