THE owner of an apartment in our building lives in Paris. Last year when he went to his travel agent to book a flight to visit here the response was “Why do you want to go to the Island of Thieves”.

Last week I needed some software for my computer and being unable to find an English language version in Palma I searched the Internet. I found about thirty suppliers who had what I wanted in stock but without exception they all refused to deliver to Spain. Several also had notices that they would not accept payment by a credit card issued by a Spanish bank.
