Have just returned from Majorca and have now had chance to study car hire invoice in great detail.
Whilst the actual daily rental cost is reasonable the policy of pay for a full tank and return empty is I feel grossly unfair, also the per litre rate for a ford fiesta petrol works out at 2.15 Euro / litre, surely this is excessive even considering cost of fuel on the Island.

Having been coming to the Island for 15 years or more we only use the car to get to and from the airport/apartment and shops.
On this occasion the car was returned with in excess of half a tank of fuel, a healthy additional profit for the hire company of 43 Euro !!! I also feel that it is misleading to advertise insurance as being comprehensive and then being expected to pay additional at the desk, or as I have private CDW insurance being expected to lodge a 600E Euro deposit against my credit card.

Another gripe is that an exchange mark up of 2% is added to the bill and that there is no option to pay in Euros or sterling, why ? an arbitrary rate is imposed and charged in sterling.

If the additional daily charge is to be imposed by the government to supposedly cover Green Costs car hire will become unaffordable. I can not think of any other sector where you are forced to pay for something you do not want or intend to use, and no refund for unused fuel is available.

It is time for the local government to take steps to regulate this industry which is damaging to the tourist industry for which the Island relies on.
