Labour woes

I felt rather sorry for Labour leader Ed Miliband yesterday in the final Prime Minister´s Question Time before their summer break. Miliband looked rather out-of-sorts and unfortunately for the Labour leader Prime Minister David Cameron was on good form, boosted by the latest unemployment figures and upbeat news on the economy. The latest opinion polls also make bad reading for Miliband; Labour are now level with the Conservatives who have enjoyed a surge in support at the expense of the United Kingdom Independence Party. The scandal over the trade union's alleged hold over Miliband and his party appears to have hit him hard and perhaps the summer break is just what Miliband needs. His party should be way ahead in the opinion polls. The major spending cuts have made the coalition government deeply unpopular but Labour appears to have failed to capitalise on public anger. Also, as the economy improves, Cameron's popularity is also set to increase. Miliband should use the summer break to get the Labour house back in order and be able to challenge the coalition again on issues which matter to the British public. With two years to go before the next general election Miliband and Labour must appear to be a government in waiting not just an opposition party which just pokes holes in government policy but fails to come up with any relevant policies themselves. Miliband must prove again that Labour have got the right leader.
