By Jason Moore IT has been a record year for tourism to Spain, according to the latest figures, but the biggest concern is the spending power of tourists which has fallen again. More tourists spending less money, is the bottomline. Well, after being on holiday in Majorca for the last two weeks I would say that once again some bars, restaurants and even shops have increased their prices. Majorca is already more expensive than the majority of places in Britain and Germany and further price rise will probably lead to tourists spending even less because they suspect they are just being ripped off. The time has come for the local authorities to issue clear guidelines on prices. The price of a coffee is different in every bar. How can this be? What with the euro and the rising cost of living there is a definite need for price control. I had some fantastic meals in restaurants which proved economical but I must say that in other places I felt I had been overcharged for rather inferior food. There is a danger that Majorca could price itself out of the market and some business owners appear to forget that most tourist come here on a budget. I know running a business is tough and I also realise that there are important overheads to meet but this constant increase in prices could cost Majorca very dearly and it will be the businesses involved which pay the consequences. Time for price control please.
