DEAR SIR,

I love living in Majorca. I love the traditions, the music, dancing, giants and caparrots, but what a pity that some barbaric traditions have continued into the twenty first century.

I have just watched two YouTube videos showing the disgraceful behaviour of the Fornalutx residents against the group of young Majorcan protestors from a local animal welfare group. This group were in Fornalutx to demonstrate the cruelty involved in the traditional correbou. This involves dragging a terrified ox to the crowded main square, taunting and beating it before slaughter. The peaceful protest was within the law and yet they were pelted with eggs, beer and insults.

For their own protection, they were led away to their cars by the police.
If the supporters of the correbou can behave like this to other human beings, I cannot imagine how they must treat animals.
Yours Annie Sofiano
