AS a resident of the district of Calvia on Majorca, I would like someone to establish my entitlements as a rate payer.
Let me start from the beginning. Since taking up residence some three years ago, it is apparent that when it rains or a neighbour washes his car or driveway, a very large lake forms directly outside my gateway. Calvia have been informed of this several times but to date have chosen to ignore my request to have this problem rectified.

On one occasion, over a year ago, two men arrived from the council and noted that there is a drain. The fact, as was pointed out, that the drain serves no purpose, due to it being totally in teh wrong position, went straight over their heads and they left, never to be seen or heard of again.

Now, to make matters worse, several new dwellings are being built and digs undertaken resulting in mud and filth collecting directly outside my property. The area continues to resemble a “third world” country.

I have also been plagued by two extremely noisy light aircraft flying directly over my roof between 12 noon and 3pm daily during the summer months. Not only do I find this extremely irritating as it is impossible to use the telephone or hold a normal conversation, and for anyone of a nervous disposition it proves extremely frightening, but I would also suggest the practice is very dangerous.

These old craft clear my home on many occasions by no more than 30 metres on their sweep down to Magalluf beach and clearly use my house as their turning marker. I have taken this matter up with Calvia, by letter in 2006 and again in 2007 and numerous telephone calls, all of which have been ignored.

I believe I have conveyed these two requests as I would have done in my homeland. Perhaps I have missed a Spanish trick to get things done? One thing I do know, is that at thome I would have been acknowledged and action would have been taken long ago.

Come on Calvia! You call yourselves Calvia 2000. Why not act like it?
