Dear Sir, FAR from being out of Boys Own Paper, as you describe them, Colonel Stirling led his men on some of the toughest exploits of the war, destroying large numbers of enemy aircraft, transports, supplies and communications in general, in the Western Desert. So much so, that General Rommel himself said, that “They caused us more trouble than any regular British units”. While the activities today are not of the same dimensions, nevertheless, the SAS are gathering information that could not be obtained by any other means. Please do not knock them because of the two soldiers who were seized by the Iraquis. And, don't forget they were rescued very quickly.
