Dear Sir,

May I be permitted to express my admiration for Monro Bryce’s Fan’s View column, always packed with witticisms and acute comments, plus especially, for his fortitude and hardihood, as he presents each week (most weeks, so far), a catalogue of disasters enveloping the team of Real Mallorca F.C. as they plumb the murky depths of the Second Division league. At this early stage of the season, he has already written of a chilling possibility, that they might even descend even further, if they continue their erratic form.

It was this observation that caused me to almost choke on my breakfast cereal, as I was unaware that there was such a lower league. Surely it must consist of a collection of village schools (including Kindergartens!).

However, I firmly believe, that Monro will still produce his witty, highly entertaining vignettes, that brighten up the day, bringing pleasure and appreciation, in equal measure. I must confess to, at times, ignoring the football shenanigans, after a bad result, but I never fail to absorb the beginning of the column, that always begins -- ‘After a week that saw------’. The same sentiment applies to the ‘Finally’---section at the end, when one is regaled with a long anecdote, almost always of a sexual nature, nut whose punch-line invariably is both vivid and unexpected. Where he gathers these original anecdotes from, I cannot imagine. I just hope he will continue to titillate us, regardless of Real Mallorca’s results. After all, it is a long season, and who knows what may happen. Let us pray there is a successful outcome, so that Monro may yet be able to revive our spirits with his immortal, stentorian, l battle cry of, VISCA MALLORCA!

Yours Sincerely,

Phil Green
