WHAT would it take to bring Magalluf under control? The Calvia council have announced that they will be installing more CCTVcameras and more police will be on duty. Residents and tourists want a complete crackdown on street prostitution and street vendors. So a small army of police officers would be needed, probably scores rather than dozens. And at the same time they could crackdown on under-age drinking  and unruly behaviour.   So really one of the biggest police operations ever mounted in the Balearics, involving scores of officers, working various shifts, would be needed to cure many of Magalluf´s ills and obviously this would be on-going throughout the Summer. The cost to the tax-payer would be high because the ranks of the local municipal police force would have to be increased and central government in Madrid would have to give the green light for additional Guardia Civil officers to be stationed in the Calvia area. All to keep Magalluf under control. Idon´t think there is any quick fix to Magalluf´s problems. You could flood the resort with police officers but then you would be accused of being kill-joys. This is one of the reasons why the Calvia council is hoping that plans to up-grade Magalluf with new hotels and the giant leisure theme park will go ahead. This should mean the return of family tourism to Magalluf  and it would also mean the end of many of the resorts problems as well.
