Ironman
Dear Sir,
Several weeks ago I “moaned” about the early removal of the sunbeds from the beach in Alcudia, albeit my letter was not published!
Subsequently I found out that it was being cleared for the Ironman competition, so I apologise!
Over the last week or so I have witnessed the preparations gradually taking place on the beach directly in front of our apartment.
Although we knew that the Ironman was scheduled we had no idea whatsoever how much hard work and disruption it would cause!
I can understand that some people have moaned about the disruption, but the event itself totally out weighs the inconvenience!
This morning my wife and I were up very early and on the beach well before 7.00 am to see what we could.
We were both surprised by the amount of spectators, and the numbers just kept increasing. We were lucky enough to be at the very front to see the swimmers enter the water, and then to see them exit the water.
This was a spectacle that I am glad that we did not miss.
Being very curious we rushed off to watch them get on the bikes and ride off into the distance.
We now have several hours to wait for the return of the competitors and hopefully see part of the marathon.
This event is obviously a very big feather in Majorca’s hat, and I hope that it returns to Alcudia.
Along with the Karting GP to be held in Palma this could start putting Majorca on the International sporting map.
I now have to wait with baited breath to witness the rest of the Ironman, and also the after event celebrations.
Well done Alcudia.
