Over the last few days they have put up signage to prohibit tourists from entering the town via the 1st street after the tunnel. The tourists are usually German, British etc. how are they expected to understand signage in Majorcan, "excepte veins i serveis"? Even google translate can’t help, it gives me "except veins & services". If I saw it, I would think that it means I can use the road if I am accessing local services.
Put tourist signage in Castilian and they stand a chance of understanding. Put in additional parking and they will not clog up the streets of the port and town. Our council wants to act as if this problem is unique, it is not. It is the same in all the popular places around the world so we must manage it....effectively.
I have not found any way of getting the local council to take points such as mine onboard. Have you any ideas or am I just wasting my time?

Ask for our signs back, as I understand an English lady came up with the original design.
I`ve read some classics in my time but Roy takes the biscuit. I think the safest way to drive if you need your roadsigns in english is to drive in England. I believe the sign design ( not the language) is standardised throughout europe so that should help. But of course we are leaving so another problem rears its head. How are the brits going to understand all those foreign signs when they go on their eurohols.
There is a reason that all aircraft traffic controllers are required to speak English. It is the safety languages of the world. Any signage referring to road safety should also be in English first, with local versions after.
You are missing the diaeresis on veïns. Google translates 'excepte veïns....' as 'except neighbours....'. Is it missing on the sign too?! Rather than Castilian I would suggest adding English. Many Germans speak English and Castilian speakers should be able to guess the meaning of veïns.
