According to the Habtur holiday rentals association in the Balearics, between 50% and 60% of accommodation will be open for the Easter holidays. The president of Habtur, Antoni Barceló, suggests that this figure would be higher if Easter were a bit later. As Easter Sunday is April 9, it will be "a little early". This is partly due to heating. "Many vacation homes are not prepared for winter, but there are good prospects for those which are open."

Stephen PerrimanI have to suspect that Mr. Perriman is one of the handful of Brits who bought a flat in Mallorca, presuming he could rent it out 48 weeks a year, collecting wads of tax free cash "under the table" and pay the mortgage with it, who screamed bloody murder when Turismo finally got the resources to enforce illegal holiday lets, requiring licensing, payng tax, effectively putting the substandard illegals out of business, in some cases forcing them to sell up because they can no longer afford the mortgage, which would explain the imaginary "mass exodus" he's referring to.
Erm, this is about ILLEGAL holiday lets and has nothing to do with the vast majority of holiday lets, which are perfectly legal, licensed and legitimate.
@Stephen Perriman clowns yes but I do not recognise the next bit. To clarify we are talking country houses/fincas here, not apartments in blocks near the sea. Many mallorquin families have at least one house they let out in the summer for extra income, as do quite a few foreigners. However I do not see any upping sticks and moving out, and certainly not struggling through the winter without their rentals. This is extra income to make the property pay for itself. There will be no mass exodus. However the premise is correct. The demand for country home holiday rental is growing all the time, despite the best efforts of the hoteliers to stifle the market, knowing much of their outdated holiday offer cannot compete. Turkey is all about price and that is where the hoteliers offering is suffering, not country rentals. It is market forces as ever. The lower incomes will look, and choose Turkey. Better off families will choose country rental in mallorca, and thats what we want but without ridiculous hotel style regulations made for the mass market and not for individual rentals.
What a complete bunch of clowns, have they still not realised that it’s the independent tourist renting private property across the year including the winter months that bring in the cash to spend that keeps many Majorcan families surviving during the winter. Hopefully in the May elections ordinary people will vote these town hall idiots out otherwise mass exodus of 2nd property owners will continue. This and the chaotic EES now postponed will continue to drive tourists to Turkey.
