Further to your readers' letters regarding the late arrival in the UK of holiday postcards, some pals of mine were driving near the new Bendinat tunnel the other day in their rented convertible, with the top down, when a freak gust of wind blew all their stamped and ready-to-post cards off the back seat and scattered them in all directions like confetti.

I counselled them by saying “at least your friends at home have more chance receiving them wind-assisted than by more conventional methods!”
