Dear Sir,

On April 22 I used Palma airport for the first time in many years. Having arrived in the port on the Island Escape I flew to London/Gatwick. I checked in in the area 1-17 and then proceeded to emigration and departure gate 49R. This entailed an unacceptably long walk. I should like to use your columns to suggest that the airport authority installs moving walkways on the upper level of the building as do its counterparts at most of the world's major airports where there are great distances from check in positions to departure gates I found the public address system to be ineffective and suggest that the airport authority should copy the system at Madrid's airport which is a model of clarity in both Spanish and English. On a positive note I was impressed by the cleanliness of the Palma airport terminal building and the excellent array of shops and bars.
