For President Thein Sein of Burma (Myanmar) who in the course of one year has almost completely changed the stance of the country's government in both foreign relations and internal policies. His readiness to admit Aung San Suu Kyi and her party back into the mainstream of the country's politics has had most attention but there have been other important reforms, including the release of political prisoners and the formation of trade unions. Thein Sein deserves a positive response from Western countries over sanctions and other restrictions.
