I hope the news that a major leisure centre is to be developed in Magalluf comes to fruition. During winter and at either end of the summer period there is a huge potential demand for something similar to what Centre Parcs do in the UK; if it is done correctly in Majorca then it would be possible to sell family day tickets for time by a large warm swimming pool with water features, wave machines etc. and for other activities within a protected environment. It would be a massive boost for winter tourism and if it is built with a retractable roof it would be useable during the summer months too.

Hotels could stay open longer and families would be attracted to a facility that is attractive when the weather makes beach sitting a suicidal activity! If, however, the plan turns out to be yet another under-used and expensive sporting facility (and those who live locally could name several around the Magalluf area) then it'll be more hard earned money down the communal drain.

For instance, the huge pools at Calvia and New Son Caliu are lovely but terribly under-used because they are serious swimming pools with deep swimming lanes and are of no interest to tourists.

Let's hope this will be a boost for money-earning tourism.
