Spain is quite rightly basking in the glory of winning the European Championships but the English Premier league can claim a small part in the success of the Spanish national team. Three out of the four players who scored in the final on Sunday play for English clubs, (Mata, Torres, Chelsea) and (Silva, Manchester City). Infact the two Chelsea players have the unique honour of winning the European title with both club and country. Cesc Fabregas, who proved vital for Spain during the championship, is a player who was “made in London” thanks to his long stay at Arsenal. Xavi Alonso who scored the two goals against France enjoyed success at Liverpool before moving to Real Madrid. And finally the undisputed court jester of the Spanish squad is Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina! Spanish players have certainly enriched the Premier League over the years although some Chelsea fans would love to see Fernando Torres scores three goals in four matches for their club! The great thing about the English Premier League is that it is able to attract players from across the globe. Thanks to the Sky billions and the new TV deal Premier League clubs are going to have a sack of cash to spend on new players. Managers will be turning their attention to Spain where there is a wealth of talent but clubs are struggling financially. The only low point is that the influx of foreign talent will halt the development of home grown players. England´s loss is Spain´s gain!
