For the 70'000 volunteers who are working behind the scenes to make the 2012 Olympics and Paralympic Games possible. Known as the Games Makers, their tasks range from helping people to find their way round the Olympic Park to looking after athletes' kit and assisting in variety of other ways -- some anticipated, others requiring innovative responses to hitherto unexpected difficulties. When applications were invited for unpaid volunteers some 250'000 responses were received from all ages and parts of Britain. Tells you something.
