Lord “Seb” Coe. Who else could it be but the man who played a leading role in securing the 2012 Olympics for London and Britain and then in leading the organising committee responsible for the impressive Opening Ceremony on Friday night and for all that will follow in the coming days? It is rare for top administrators to be able to say “been there, done that” but Lord Coe is an admirable exception having been a gold and silver medallist at 1'500 and 800 metres at successive Olympics in 1980 and 1984. He is entitled to be considered Britain's greatest Olympian both as athlete and administrator.
