Majorca's image has taken a bit of a battering over recent months. The threat of strikes and fears that tourists could be going elsewhere to cheaper destinations has rather dogged the image of the island. But Majorca was given a real boost this week when David Cameron arrived on the island. It proved above all that the island is still Britain´s number oneholiday destination which is fit even for a Prime Minister. One of my Spanish colleagues remarked that it was great news for the island and a tourism official in Pollensa reminded me to underline the fact that the Prime Minister was staying in the area. Cameron has also given Pollensa a real buzz. In many bars in the port and the town there is plenty of chatter about the Prime Minister. “You would never guess who was having lunch next to me....” one excited tourist was overheard telling friends and family back home over her mobile. What is also fantastic is that the Camerons are being seen in Pollensa. Yesterday, we had received at least 25 sightings of the PM all over the north of the island. I must also congratulate the Prime Minister on his choice of holiday home, it is absolutely fantastic. Near the beach it also has breathtaking views over the Pollensa countryside and it also has plenty of facilities. So where is it? Well I can´t tell you I am afraid. My lips are sealed. Suffice to say that it is a lovely property which will make a great family holiday spot.
