Let us not forget there is another side of the coin. It is only fair that residents from other parts of Spain should be able to apply for public service jobs.

We are in a multicultural Europe, whether we like it or not. In a multicultural society jobs should be allotted on merit regardless of race, colour, or nationality.

We may find it advantageous to have some English, German, Moroccan and Ecuadorian Police and traffic wardens for a start. We mean no disrespect to our Majorcan hosts whose dances and culture we enjoy. At many concerts and events the front rows are reserved for “the authorities”, who may or may not turn up at the last minute. Let us remember that in a democratic society the politicians are the servants of the people not their masters. They would do well to show a little humility and not expect to be treated like royalty.
