By Jason Moore COULD someone please tell me, why the Palma city council decided to change the route of the Three Kings parade this year? Now, I´ve heard the official reason;it is a tight squeeze along some of the streets and public safety was also an issue but why? The route has remained the same for as long as I can remember and it was pretty ridiculous that the Kings had to return to the Plaza Cort and meet the Mayor and other officials once the parade was over.

It could be the same with San Sebastian later this month when the council has decided to use silent fireworks (whatever they are) during the big display for fear that the noise levels could hit buildings of historical interest. Now, while my dog and cat will certainly thank the council for this move, I do understand that a firework is not really the same unless it goes bang! What are you meant to do make a loud noise when the firework explodes (!).

While issues of public safety and damage to historic buildings should not be taken lightly, I think there is a danger that the city council could ruin the fun of thousands of people. Palma is a great city and it should be able to celebrate in style and in safety without the council getting too carried away.
