I have seen the initial letter sent to the Calvia council from the production company which filmed The Truth About Magalluf asking for their help to make the controversial programme which appeared on BBC3 on Monday night. What the initial letter states about the programme and what actually appears are two very different things. The majority of the interview with the Mayor of Calvia Manu Onieva was edited out and what started out as a sort of holiday programme ended up dishing all the dirt on one of Majorca´s principal holiday destinations. Now the camera never lies but it depends where you point it. Magalluf is a “fun resort” and there is outrageous behaviour and excessive drinking which many people might find offensive. But this is Magalluf. It does what it states on the tin. If you want this sort of holiday you go to Magalluf. If you want a quiet family holiday you go to Palmanova or Puerto Pollensa. This is the lovely thing about Majorca. There is something for everyone. Many of the people like myself who were outraged by the programme will never go on holiday there. The presenter Stacey Dooley, actually said that young people after watching The Truth About Magalluf will want to go on holiday to Magalluf because it is their ideal holiday. We all know the truth about Magalluf . It is an outrageous holiday destination but it still attracts half a million tourists every year and probably next year evenmore. If you don´t like it don´t go there.
