DEAR SIR,

IS it any wonder that public faith on the Spanish legal system is at an all time low? I refer of course to the refusal of the Speaker of the Balearic Parliament to testify when summoned to give evidence/answer questions relating to accusations of political corruption and misappropriation of public funds. Surely no ones “position” puts them above the law and her claim of “right to silence” should be regarded as “contempt of court” and dealt with accordingly? Perhaps then, we “taxpaying-mere mortals”, would not believe there's one law for them (politicians) and another for us! This on going investigation into politician corruption is fast descending into farce, where an expensive investigation (paid for by us) allows politicians to escape punishment with the only beneficiaries being the lawyers. Public servants are accountable to the public or should be! Yours sincerely

M Irving
