THERE is no demand for holidays in Majorca during the winter; the weather is simply not good enough; the island is like a ghost from November onwards. These are just some of the excuses which have been made by tourism executives over the last few months to explain why there is little winter tourism to Majorca. So what are Chelsea football club doing on the island? Well according to the high-flying Premier League side they have come to Majorca because of its “excellent weather” and because the time difference with countries in the Middle East or even further abroad makes the island a more attractive proposition. So if it is good enough for Chelsea Football Club and its small army of stars then surely it should be good enough for tour firms to operate a winter programme? Luckily Chelsea have their own privately chartered aircraft because unfortunately the airlines also believe that there is no point flying to the island in the winter because of the....weather!

The fact that Chelsea are on the island has already given the island some priceless promotion in Britain. Imagine if more Premier League sides followed Chelsea´s lead and came to Majorca for winter training camps. It would be fantastic. But as we all know Majorca has rather been written off as a winter holiday destination. However, I would like to thank Chelsea for coming to Majorca because I sincerely doubt that anyone at the local ministry for tourism is going to do it!
