Dear Sir, I AM a British resident of over 25 years and enjoyed many family holidays on the Island before I settled here. I am an avid reader of The Bulletin and read with interst the report and views of Diandra Douglas with which I totally agree. Up until two years ago, I lived in the beautiful area of Son Toni-Crestaix near Sa Pobla, and I now feel that there are far too many new constructions in this area. However, it is the proposed two new golf courses in the Muro and Can Picafort area where I now live, which I am concerned about. Currently the diversity of bird species and other wildlife is fabulous. If these courses are to be built, there will be dreadful disturbances before comletion that can cause many problems, and then there is the water shortage. If we have some dry periods, what then? So if there is anything or any way that we residents in the North of the Island can do to keep Majorca beautiful and to help Diandra, we are ready and willing. I SHALL be coming to Majorca in July and staying in a villa in Puerto Pollensa which I have done so for the last eight years. Whilst I think Majorca is a wonderful place I find it very difficult, as I have my invalid father with me who is 85 years old and who is in a wheelchair. The kerbs in Puerto Pollensa are very high even on the crossings and the few disabled places for parking cars seem to be taken up by anyone who gets there first regardless of whether they have a disabled badge or not. My father is a large man and I find it very difficult to lift his wheelchair over these kerbs. Are there any plans to make disabled kerbs in Puerto Pollensa or have they done this since last year? On the positive side, I find Majorca a lovely friendly place and my father really enjoys his holiday. I do find that Majorcan people are very helpful in giving me a hand to put the wheelchair in the back of the car as it is no light weight and I do struggle especially as it is usually very hot!
