...for American John Isner and Frenchman Nicolas Mahut who made history before millions of pairs of eyes by taking their fifth set game at Wimbledon to a 70-68 conclusion after 11 hours and 5 minutes on Court No 18 - a distant corner of the Wimbledon grounds which holds only seven hundred people and where contests between relative unknowns are usually staged. On this occasion it became for a time the centre of the tennis world. A cheer, too, for the All England Club for so quickly preparing special trophies for the two players to mark their achievement
