Success of the port

A N important milestone will be marked next week when the Puerto Portals yacht club celebrates its 25th anniversary. As a school-boy I remember watching the port being built, I never thought then that it would be so successful as it is now. A whole series of events are taking place to mark the Port´s 25th anniversary which got underway. Puerto Portals, is probably one of Majorca´s great success stories. A large marina coupled with fine restaurants, bars and shops. I don´t think that any other yacht club on the island has proved so successful. The Calvia council, at one stage two decades ago, wanted to replicate the success of the Puerto Portals with another marina in Magalluf.

It was a good idea but failed to take into account the many problems which the project would have. Puerto Portals is known throughout the Mediterranean and quite rightly so. This is one project which Majorca should feel very proud of. It has completely changed the Calvia area for ever.
