T o the Ministry of Defence and the RAF which for seventeen years have insisted that the crash of an RAF helicopter on the Mull of Kintyre with the loss of 25 lives was the result of gross negligence by the two pìlots, Jonathan Tapper and Richard Cook. Despite several inquiries pointing to similar accidents with the Chinook Mk2 helicopter and evidence of a technical fault, the MoD and its expert RAF witnesses persisted with the “gross negligence” judgement that has finally been overturned in an independent report that clears the pilots' names.
