By Jason Moore INSTEAD of planning multi-million euro investments at the far end of the Paseo Maritimo why don't the local authorities make more use of the whole of the Paseo? After two fatal accidents involving heavy lorries on the Paseo Maritimo perhaps the time has come for this important road to be sealed from traffic.

Perhaps two lanes could be left open on the far side leaving the road which borders the sea vehicle free and it could be developed into a proper sea-front with outdoor bars, restaurants and shops. The famous convention centre could also be built there. This would be a more suitable site because the centre of the city is within easy walking distance. Before embarking on ambitious projects perhaps Palma should make more use of what it has got.

ANOTHER leading beach, Cala Mayor, has been closed because of a sewage leak. Just what is going on? Last weekend Camp de Mar was closed and just two days after it finally re-opened another beach is out of service because of a sewage leak.

I think it is time for the local authorities to take some real action over the winter period. If this island gets a reputation for dirty beaches then it could have serious repercussions for the future. After all, this island is built around sun and beach tourism.
