...for Ed Stafford the 34-year-old former British army officer who this week finished his long walk of about four thousand miles from the source of the River Amazon in Peru to the point where it reaches the Atlantic Ocean in Brazil. The walk took 859 days during which Mr Stafford met and dealt with every conceivable Amazonian hazard, human, animal and natural. Like all adventures these days he had his Google Earth and GPS as trusty friends but still his achievement was “in the top league” as explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes testified.
