Holiday Properties

Dear Sir, For the life of me, I cannot understand why the subject of hotels versus holiday letting off private properties, has erupted so intensely, and at times, viciously. As exemplified with yet another editorial, that once again, points the finger at hoteliers for their unreasonable and antagonistic attitude regarding these properties, some of which, were erected 40 to 50 years ago.

In fact, I bought an apartment on the sister Island of Minorca at the beautiful resort of S'Algar, in 1977, with no fuss or opposition.
As I was still gainfully employed, me and my wife, enjoyed some enchanting, tranquil holidays there. To help defray its expenses, I used to let it to friends and relatives, which covered those outgoings, plus the costs of maintenance, that were necessary, and of course, provided employment for the locals, and surely it still does.

It may also interest you to learn, that at the first time I holidayed on Minorca, it was at a small complex of bungalows that was owned by S'Algar Hotel, adjoining the complex! It makes me wonder if the current phraseology, “If you can't beat ‘em-join ‘ em”, can be applied.

Yours Sincerely, Phil Green, El Toro
