BY Jason Moore I remember my first editor saying to me; try and get a local angle to big international stories. In the case of Majorca the principal player in many big news stories turns up on our shores. This is the case with Rupert Murdoch who has dominated the news headlines throughout this year as a result of the phone hacking scandal at the News of the World. On Saturday his yacht moored up off the coast of Majorca and the Australian- born tycoon went ashore to hold talks with a senior Spanish newspaper executive. It is widely rumoured that Murdoch is interested in buying one of Spanish principal newspaper groups, Unedisa, which publishes a number of leading publications.

The Murdoch yacht was still off the coast yesterday infront of the home of Spanish newspaper executive, Pedro J. Ramirez. As far as I can recall this is Murdoch´s first visit to the island and I think you can say that he is mixing business with pleasure. In the exclusive photographs we publish today courtesy of our stablemate, Ultima Hora, you can see that he is in talks with Robert Thomson, one of Murdoch´s closest advisers who is a former editor of the Times, who now holds the same role at the Wall Street Journal. So once again Majorca makes the news by attracting a big name personality who has made the headlines once again. Quite incredible and it certainly shows what a unique place this island is. Murdoch in Majorca, you wouldn´t have believed it, if it had been anywhere else!
