Dear Sir, There is little doubt that Mr Smith was ripped off being charged 4€+ a beer in Puerto Andraix (Daily B Aug 20).
Price control is not an option in the EU but shopping around is. In our picturesque Church Square in Can Pastilla we get a draught beer for 1.40€. In addition are sustaining tapas - olives, slivers of ham or triangles of omelette all served by the jovial owner/waiter Juan.

While on the subject, tips are not obligatory. Only when service warrants (as with Juan) spare change or 5% is quite adequate. My friends and I normally cough up a total of 1.50€ per beer which seems quite acceptable to all concerned.
