THE Balearic Ministry for tourism has quite a large black-hole in its finances allegedly caused by the recent cases of political corruption and alleged back-handers being paid. In other-words there is little money in the bank to spend on promotion campaign at a time when the islands are facing stiff competition from resorts in other parts of the Mediterranean.

In other-words it is time for some imagination and what the Balearics does have is some excellent events ranging from the San Sebastian live music festival in January to the enormous Inca market. I would urge the local authorities to underline the fact that the islands have plenty more to offer than just sun, sea and sand, especially during the winter. Throughout this year and through our website we have been asking our online readers to give us their holiday dates and we would then send them all the what´s on events which are taking place during that period. It has been a huge success and literally thousands of people have asked us for information which has helped make their holiday a bit more special. If all these cultural events, from concerts to markets were properly promoted at the major travel fairs I am sure that more tourists would come to the islands. It is just a case of imagination.
