WHEN you listen to a football or radio commentator in Spain, it is clear that he is supporting the Spanish team. This is quite normal because most of his audience are doing exactly the same. Goals for the opposing team are whispered, goals for Spain are shouted.

I haven´t got a problem with this, it is the nature of the game and full marks to the Spanish for getting behind their team. Unfortunetely some English commentators don´t do the same! I was listening to the England v. Spain match on Saturday afternoon and I thought that I had turned into Spanish radio rather than the BBC. To say that the commentary was biased, was an understatement. We all know that Spain were the better team and were superior to England but Capello´s men did win and their performance certainly deserved some praise. A rather ramshackle England squad kept a clean sheet against the reigning world champions, not bad surely? It wasn´t a great performance but it was a great result for England. After all the controversy regarding the poppy ban and FIFA it was just the result that England wanted. Spain can afford a defeat in a friendly! They are a great team and they will probably go on and win the European Championship, no problem. They play some great football and have some great players. But full marks to Frank Lampard and England, the result did rather lift England slightly eventhough it was just a friendly at Wembley.
