Dear Sir,

At last the efforts of lobby group EPORE (Europeos por España) and others may be paying off over the restoration of the Residency Card. As noted in last Tuesday's Daily B this is purely a Spanish matter and only requires an administrative change.

The same applies to the Yacht Matriculation tax - Madrid can decide alone.
The undemocratic refusal to let European residents vote in General Elections in Spain is more difficult as all European Governments are involved via their diplomats in Brussels.

The efforts of EPORE's honorary president Kate Mentink through her contacts in the PP may be vital. MP Miguel Ramis and Balearic President Jose Ramon Bauza in turn through their contacts with Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy may persuade him to make time for legislation in the Cortez and Brussels. “Socialist” Governments in general have little interest in the ex-patriot vote which they assume to be right wing. Possibly because of this the then Labour Government introduced the 15 year rule in Britain. With the political change in London and the switch in Madrid the time might be right to push for review.
